Why AEO

Search is changing. Your audit tool should too.

Same site. Two different audiences. They overlap on the basics, then the AI engines look for an additional layer most SEO tools never check.

Classic SEO

Google & Bing

Googlebot · Bingbot

What it reads

  • Title tag, meta description
  • Canonical URL, Open Graph, Twitter card
  • Single H1, mobile viewport
  • robots.txt, sitemap.xml
  • JSON-LD structured data
  • Security headers (HSTS, CSP, etc.)

What you get

A blue link in the SERP. Users click. They visit your site.

The AEO layer

AI answer engines

ChatGPT · Claude · Perplexity · Google AI Overviews

Everything on the left, plus:

  • llms.txt plain-text site description for AI agents
  • ai.txt Spawning consent for training data
  • Per-bot rules in robots.txt GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Claude-Web, PerplexityBot, OAI-SearchBot, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended
  • FAQPage schema AI engines extract Q&A pairs as cited answers
  • HowTo schema step lists become procedural answers
  • Author / Person schema E-E-A-T signals for citation credibility

What you get

Cited or summarized in the answer itself. Users may never click through.

Lighthouse, Ahrefs, and Sitebulb check the left column. AEO Radar checks both — in one 30-second scan.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's AEO?

Answer Engine Optimization — the practice of structuring your site so AI search engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) can find, understand, and cite your content. It builds on classic SEO but uses different signals.

How is this different from Lighthouse, Ahrefs, or Sitebulb?

Those tools were built for the Google-search era. They check fundamentals well but mostly ignore AEO signals like llms.txt, ai.txt, AI crawler permissions, and the schema patterns AI tools use to extract citable answers. AEO Radar checks both worlds in one scan.

Is the free scan really free?

Yes. Run scans on a single site, no signup required. Paid plans add multi-site support, scheduled scans, alerts, fix recommendations, and historical tracking.

Will this slow down my site?

No. AEO Radar fetches your public pages the same way Google or any other crawler does. There is no script to install and no integration required.

What if my site doesn't pass everything?

That is the point. Most sites — including major ones — fail several AEO checks because the signals are new. The scan tells you exactly what to fix, in plain English, on paid plans.
